The Straight White Male: The Straight Male 's Perspective by David E. Ricks (The Gay & Lesbian Review, January 2005) "A heterosexual white male is a person who is straight. The straight male does not see himself as gay, but rather as an individual, an individual who is heterosexual. This does not mean he cannot be attracted to and/or date gay men, because he is heterosexual and could be attracted to and date other heterosexual males, but the point he is making is that he is straight. He is a white, male heterosexual male, and is straight."

The Straight White Male: Gay & Lesbian Interracial Men of the World by John F. McAdams (University of Pennsylvania, December 2004) This is the first book about the gay men of the world written by an interracial man. McAdams brings together a wealth of information about his own experiences as gay man, which are presented through his experiences as an interracial man. He was raised in a predominantly African-American environment, which he describes as being a constant reminder of the racism against blacks in the US during the civil rights era. McAdams describes his relationship with his mother as one of being a "troublemaker." This book is a powerful document about how interracial relationships can change when one has to confront their pasts. He is often a very candid narrator, revealing much about his personal life, including his feelings about his race. The gay men sites author tells us that when McAdams first met his wife, she was very interested in a woman and didn't want to give up her first love. He explains that the marriage didn't work, and that their children grew up in a world where interracial relationships are rare. It was the death of his parents that caused him to realize the full implications of being an interracial man. His children also grew up in an interracial family, which also helped shape their view of interracial relationships and their relationship with their father.

The author's personal experience with interracial relationships can be very powerful, as can his exploration of what it means to be gay in a white, middle-class, white, heterosexual society. In my opinion, there is an aspect of this book that should be more widely read. I have a friend who is a white guy who has been a victim of a hate crime. He was beaten up, and he felt that the police didn't do anything to help him. The police and prosecutors were trying to protect white people. His book gives me hope, as well as the encouragement to continue doing what I love to do, which is to help people.

It's worth noting that some of the book's best passages, which deal with issues of race and class, have an obvious appeal to white guys who are interested in dating African-American girls. (The meeting gay guys online book itself, which is fairly lengthy, is pretty easy to read and doesn't require a lot of knowledge.) This, I suppose, makes the book less of a must-read for those who don't like to read about race or gender issues. It's not that I don't like reading about these issues. I do. I just don't read a lot about them. I read lots of books about sex. But, to me, the most interesting and thought-provoking book I have ever read about interracial dating was The Race Card, by Charles Johnson. This was written in the late 1940s and has since been adapted for the screen by David Mamet.

Johnson's book was about a man named Fred, an American, who was an American-born, but a Puerto Rican-born, Cuban-American, and was gay. In fact, it's not the first time I've heard that word. It's a slang term that means "the man in the bed with you." When it comes to sex, Fred wasn't doing a whole lot. He was a very successful businessman in Puerto Rico. He was married and had two kids, and had lived in Puerto Rico most of his life. So, he was very well-off. He was in good shape, and didn't seem to be a total burden to other people. And he had a pretty normal gay life. The one thing Fred didn't have was a lot of fun. So, when he started dating a guy from the Caribbean, that really opened his eyes to how much fun it could be. Now, in all honesty, I'm not going to claim that he's the nicest guy I've ever known. He doesn't have to be. He's got a lot of baggage and he didn't do well out of the closet, and he doesn't seem to want to deal with it. But he's a really, really cool guy. It was a great, happy love story, and I think he had some amazing moments with him, but he definitely was a bit of a loner.

It wasn't until he'd been there a couple of years that he started making friends, and I think there was a gay dating sites online time when he thought maybe that was what he wanted to do in his life. I mean, he had his reasons, and he did want to move around. He didn't want to be stuck here, but at the same time he was always thinking that he wanted to move to another country, or maybe to an island, or to a place where people are more open to people like him, that he could explore. And I don't think that was the case. He just wanted to be normal. And he's kind of cool. He's just a normal guy who's kind of trying to fit in. It doesn't mean that he's a better guy than anyone else, but it's not like he was living the whole life. Like, he's not like, I don't know, he's a nice guy who goes to the gym, who works out a lot. But he also doesn't like having to deal with that same thing he had to meet gay guys online deal with when he was a kid. And so when you go to the gym and you can't even get that muscle you used to have when you were eight and you online gay chat don't know why, and your dad and all these guys that have gone to college, they're like, "Oh, you know what, let's try to get that." And the problem is, you can't. You've got to have, you know, genetics. Or, you know, it could be that he was kind of, you know, just in the right place at the right time. But there's no way to know that. But so many times, I think it's like gay chat rooms the same thing is, is gay men singles that in a lot of ways, you know, guys that are gay, a lot of times they go, "Oh, I really like my guy. I'm not in love with the guy. He's really cool. I'm really attracted to him." It's really confusing. It's confusing in so many ways. It's like, "Who are these guys?" There are all kinds of people like that. And it's really confusing to find out.
