In an interview on the "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2004, the first gay man to get married was David Bowie. But when asked if he knew any straight people, he answered, "No. You can't find me one. I live by myself. I don't hang out with other people." In 2003, a group of college students, all white, took to the internet to find black men to date. On the internet, the word was out about this new phenomenon. There are a variety of sites meet gay guys online and forums where the dating is called "dancing." They will send you a box full of condoms, and if you ask them where they are from, they will say, "Saskatchewan. We got to be careful with those little girls, and so we're only sending them from Canada. Not that we don't give you the condoms, just that we're a little careful." The men are not in a relationship, they are just dancing.
So they can come and go whenever they want, or if the women don't like it, they just don't get the condoms. The men can't come because they are too embarrassed, or they meeting gay guys online don't want to talk to strangers. But there are other reasons that people are afraid of dancing. "I think there is an issue with the media and stereotypes," says Kim. "We have to be careful in the gay scene and we have to keep the kids safe." Kim's daughter had to stay in bed for the night for fear that she would get sexually abused. "I'm afraid there will be people like this, like the old guy in that video, that don't know what they're doing," she says. "They're just too stupid." Some are more worried than others about their safety. A couple in New York told Kim, "It's the first time we've ever been out together and we're in the middle of a rush and everything is getting so fast. There's no one to speak up, and they don't know that they're hurting our child." And another said that her partner would gay men singles be worried if her boyfriend left them alone. "He knows I'm not interested, so he's gonna be thinking he's in a bad mood," she says. "It's like, 'Why are we going to let it get this far?' I don't think he understands that." Kim says she has a strong faith in God, but she is also not afraid of people. "God is gay dating sites online not gonna put someone in prison," she says. "It's a choice, and if you want to do it, you can do it. I believe in that, but I don't feel like it's in my hands." When Kim first moved to the US a decade ago, the gay scene was almost nonexistent. She says it felt like, "Everybody knew somebody, but nobody really knew who." Now that it's getting bigger, she says there's a lot more to it. "I don't want the whole world to know what I'm going through. I'd rather that it be private," she says. "But I don't want people to be like, 'I don't know what happened, but he was gay, so he's straight now.' That's sad." She still wants a partner from a traditional family, though. "I think they would love to know that I'm heterosexual and that I love my family," she says. I don't know what I am but I know what I'm not, so that's a big part of it. I want to be the person that people can trust." Korean interracial dating is still a new thing, and in her case it's more of a curiosity. She doesn't get that many inquiries, and for good reason. Most people she knows are Korean, and many of them don't want to know. "Most of the people that I know have a Korean partner," she says. "That's not the only way of dating. There are other people out there that are gay but don't get to date the gay ones because it's not their thing. But I do have Korean people that I know. And I've met some of those guys in my work, and I'm dating one now." Her work has made her popular with Korean women and gay men, but she hasn't met many foreigners. "I've seen foreigners who look very much Korean but have Asian features. And they're not gay. They're not straight either. They're just Korean. And I'm sure I'll see them someday. We've got a good relationship there. We don't have a lot of trouble together, but you always have the opportunity to go somewhere else and see if you like them." —A.S., 23, South Korea I think that there is an undeniable gay Asian culture in Korea. There are lots of gay and lesbian bars, cafes, and clubs, but you don't find many "gay" and "lesbian" movies and shows (not to mention "boyfriend" movies, if you want gay chat rooms to be serious). But I think the "gay Asian culture" part is a misconception. In Seoul, you see gay men in bars and clubs all the time. Most of them are not Asian or African, but are Korean. And they're usually white or even white and Asian (they don't call them "faggy white" or "faggot") and are in their late twenties, in their twenties, and in their thirties. Some of them are married, or married, or have already had a child. Some of them, I'm sure, are not. But they're out there. There are always gay people in Korea. And gay Korean men are just as happy as they are in any other country. If you're a homosexual who isn't in a relationship, then you're going to be happy. Just make sure to have your own personal preferences or preferences that you're not going to compromise or that you want to keep to yourself and if you feel that a relationship is going to make you happy, go for it. However, if you're still looking for something more than just a gay hookup, then you're going to have to look at some of these stories first. The gay hookup industry is a big part of Korea's LGBT scene. And because the online gay chat Korean men have such strong standards in their relationship and relationships, it's easier to find a Korean guy. If you're interested, then read on.
