Before we get started, let's talk about some of the most important things you need to know about dating a guy: There are a lot of ways to find a guy. We've meeting gay guys online all met them. What we don't always know is what to do with them. I mean, do I really want a guy who goes out gay chat rooms on his dates and asks me out at 3 o'clock in the morning? I'm not so sure. So, for a guy, there are a few things we should always be thinking about: Is this guy a good fit for me? Do I really want to date him? And what are we going to do? Well, we'll talk about that in a bit. But for now, let's start with a quick look at some of the top sites that are out there for finding gay men.

Tinder

Tinder is an app that was recently built into Google's mobile operating system, Android, and they now have more than a million active users. They also have one of the fastest growing user base. The app is simple. You sign up with your phone number. Then, your profile will show up. And your profile will get personalized based on what you like to do. It's similar to an app like Tinder for women. So, it's like a matchmaking app for men. If you want a guy, you just type his name in and you'll get a match, and if you are interested in dating, then you get a notification on your phone saying, "Hey, we're currently matching on OkCupid!" It's very simple, and so it can be a great dating app. But in order to use it, you have to have a phone number. So the first thing I did was go ahead and create a free number, and that's what it was: a number I created to go to my number and call a free number to talk to a guy who is looking for a boyfriend. It was really simple and free. So then I went to OkCupid, and I went and I typed in the word boyfriend, and I hit "Ok". And then I got another notification, saying "Hey, you have already matched, so we're currently not matching." I was confused, and I thought, "I'm not going to go back there. I'm going to go find a guy I know who is gay." And then a couple of days later I was able to finally match. So there's been quite a few matches that I have been able to find since then.

So I have done this experiment to see if people could be that quick to find a guy in need. What I found is that they are. They have a very good response rate of about 50%, which is really high. I think it's a lot higher than the 50% people that say "Yeah, I can't tell you who is gay but I'd like to know." That response rate would be very much like the ones that you're going to get in this country. It's an average of three to five matches, I'd say. The two people that I matched up with were incredibly easy, and the two other guys were really good. They didn't look like it would be a big deal for them, but they actually seemed like they were interested, they were like "Yeah, I've looked at all the photos, and they're not bad" – like they were more interested in dating someone than just just finding someone to date. I think this is one of the things that people are really good at is responding to the first few messages you send.

I guess what I'm really curious about is if there are a lot of people who respond so readily, and what are the reasons why? I guess it's sort of like the dating game, the whole point is you're trying to find a relationship, and there are things that you're really curious about, and then you want to find a partner, and then you're hoping that they'll reciprocate that interest. I mean, that's sort of what I try to do – to find out who's gay, and try and have a couple of dates with people who seem to be interested in the same thing, but who aren't interested in getting to know each other. In that sense, it's probably not the most realistic, I guess, but it's interesting, to me, to get feedback from people and see what they really think, to just get that first couple of dates and then you can build on it. So, if you're like me, you really want to meet the first guy, so if that's something that you're interested in, I think that this kind of thing will help you find out more.
